Dorothy Douthit is a violinist/ violist who holds
two Bachelors degrees in both performance and music education from Michigan State University. A Texas transplant, Dorothy spent her formative years in the Midwest studying classical music at various academies and conservatories, but she arrived in Texas (1986) as soon as she could.
Intrigued and enamored by the people and cultures of Texas and the Southwest, Ms. Douthit has been involved in every aspect of its musical traditions, from implementing full-scale Mariachi programs in the Texas public schools (1994), to framing Western Heritage with her fiddle, and performing in local symphony orchestras for Abilene, Big Spring and San Angelo, Texas. She has proudly served the San Angelo Symphony for 22 years, where she holds the position of principal violist.
