Dorothy Douthit is a violinist/ violist who holds two Bachelors degrees in both performance and music education from Michigan State University. She began her formal studies at the age of nine, and is a graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy located in Northern Michigan where she studied violin with Paul Statsky and Rosemary Malachi. She then attended Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory of Music where she began studying the viola with Arthur Klima, and chamber music with Richard Roberts of the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra. She later transferred to Michigan State University to study viola with Lyman Bodman and Chamber Music with the Julliard String Quartet.


A Texas transplant, Dorothy spent her formative years in the Midwest studying classical music at various academies and conservatories, but she arrived in Texas as soon as she could. Intrigued and enamored by the people and cultures of Texas and the Southwest, Ms. Douthit has been involved in every aspect of its musical traditions, from implementing full-scale Mariachi programs in the Texas public schools (1994), to framing Western Heritage with her fiddle and her chuck wagon, Fiddle Fire. She has performed in local symphony orchestras for Abilene, Big Spring and San Angelo, Texas. She proudly served the San Angelo Symphony for 22 years, where she held the position of principal violist.
